Carlo Alberto Gemignani

Carlo Alberto Gemignani is an Associate Professor of Geography in the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Industries at the University of Parma. His research has focused on iconographic representations – in particular the use of cartographic and historical photographic sources – in the construction of geographical and territorial knowledge; on the development of local cultural, environmental and tourism resources; on the history of the territory, cartography and topography; and on the formation of geographical culture at a national level. He has conducted research in Italian and foreign archives, studying documentation relating to the 18th to 20th centuries. He trained at the Department of Modern and Contemporary History and the Laboratory of Archaeology and Environmental History at the University of Genoa. He edits the series “La montagna scritta” for UNICOPLI publishers; he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Centre for Historical and Geographical Studies (CISGE) and of the Alcide Cervi Institute, “Emilio Sereni” Library and Archive (Gattatico – RE).
